White Engobe
Description
Mayco’s engobes come in a variety of colors and can be fired at 1210–1280 °C. They are pre-mixed and applied with a brush in 2–3 coats to greenware, leather-hard clay, or bisque-fired ceramics. The surface finish ranges from matte to satin, depending on the firing temperature. Engobes are matte/semi-matte unless covered with a clear glaze. The sample shown on the website is without a clear glaze. To ensure food safety, a certified clear glaze must be applied. You can also combine engobes with other Mayco glazes for added effects and variety. Volume: 473 ml.

Information
Engobes will not stick to kiln shelves when applied in two coats. Heavier application may cause the glaze to flow. Results may vary depending on the kiln shelf material – test firing is recommended.
Cone 6 oxidation (1240 °C): White Engobe fires matte white. Engobes are used to coat your clay body to your preferred finish/color and are a great base to achieve variability in your glaze results.
Cone 10 reduction (1280 °C): Has a slight sheen.
The engobes can also be applied to wet clay, greenware or lightly bisque-fired ceramics (cone 04). They are suitable for decorative techniques such as sgraffito and majolica and may affect the results of glazes applied over them. Engobes change the color of the clay surface without cross-contamination and are easy to clean. Suitable for use in both oxidation and reduction firings. Results vary depending on clay body, application thickness, firing schedule and temperature – test firing is recommended.
