Description

Mayco Wax Resist is a water-based special-purpose product that repels glaze during application and prevents glaze from adhering to the surface where the wax was applied. During the glaze firing, the wax disappears, leaving the surface underneath as it was before firing.

Apply a generous layer of Wax Resist with a brush. Clean the brush with turpentine. Even a thin layer repels glaze. Once an area has been coated with Wax Resist, a second layer will not adhere to the first; instead, it will form droplets on top of the first layer. Once a layer of Wax Resist has been applied, it can only be removed by firing. When applying glaze over Wax Resist, any remaining glaze droplets on the wax must be removed with a damp sponge before firing. Warning: any glaze remaining on the wax will burn onto the ceramic. During firing, additional smoke is emitted as the wax burns off. Ensure that the kiln is well ventilated during the first part of the firing to remove these fumes and gases.
