Rutile Wash
Description
Mayco washes are ready-mixed oxides that are best applied with a soft fan brush to the bisque-fired ware. Fire to between cone 5 and cone 6 (1200°C - 1230°C). Many colors also perform very well at higher temperatures; see images under Information. Test before applying to production. Food safe in combination with suitable clear glaze. 118 ml.
Information
Mayco washes can be used alone or with any glaze from low firing (cone 06/05), medium firing (cone 5/6), and up to high firing (cone 10). They are mainly used to paint into textured areas and are wiped away on the higher surfaces to highlight the texture. They work well for stenciling, stamping, and silkscreening because they are a very stable product. When used in combination, apply a transparent and stable glaze such as a celadon glaze or clear glaze to ensure stability in performance and maintain detail. The application of clear glaze is necessary to make washes food safe.
Cone 06 oxidation (1000°C): Fires to an opaque mustard yellow with a dry finish. Little to no movement when used alone or in combination.

Cone 6 oxidation (1230°C): Fires to an opaque deep rust red with a slight sheen when applied fully concentrated. This product will leave red body staining when wiped away. Little to no movement when used alone or in combination.

Cone 10 reduction (1280°C): Color darkens; finish, mobility, and body staining remain the same.
