Underglaze Pencil - Black
Description
Amaco’s black underglaze pen is ideal for shading, sketching, or marking pottery. Without a clear glaze, it is not food-safe.
Information
It is recommended that the pen be sharpened carefully with a sharp pencil sharpener. Ideally, the sharpener should be designed for sharpening softer materials, such as pastel pencils. The pigment core in the pen is fragile, so avoid dropping the pen on the floor to prevent the core from breaking.
To prevent the color from bleeding during the clear glaze firing, you can either apply the product when the piece is leather-hard and perform a bisque fire before the clear glaze, or you can use 1 tablespoon of AMACO Gum Solution (KT-AGS) in 1/2 liter of water and spray it onto the decorated object before glazing (a face mask is required). Note: Maximum temperature is Cone 10 (1280°C)
For earthenware, we recommend LG-10 as a clear glaze, and for stoneware, HF-9 from Amaco, to make the pen food-safe and give it a glossy finish.
