White Mudcrack
Description
Mudcrack was developed to create a highly-texture raised and cracked surface. The thicker the application, the more textured the surface. Mudcrack can be directly applied to bisqueware or in combination with other mid-range glazes. For shown results, apply directly to bisqueware. Heavy application may cause unfired glaze to release from bisqueware. If glaze is thick in the jar, vigorous stirring and shaking will increase fluidity. The amount of texture and cracking that is produced with these glazes is directly a result of how thick the glaze is applied. A thinner application will result in a smoother surface with very fine cracks. A thicker application will result in larger cracks and more tactile texture.
Mayco stoneware glazes are best applied with a soft fan brush to bisque-fired ware. Fire to between cone 5 and cone 6 (1200°C - 1230°C). Many colors also perform very well at higher temperatures, see images under the Information tab. Test before applying to product. Ready-mixed. 473 ml.
Information
Apply directly to bisque-fired ware. Heavy application may cause unburned glaze to detach from the bisque. The glaze may be quite thick in consistency when first opened, due to its composition. If the glaze is thick in the jar, vigorous stirring, adding a little water, and shaking will increase its fluidity. The amount of texture and cracks produced with these glazes is directly dependent on how thickly the glaze is applied. A thinner application results in a smoother surface with very fine cracks. A thicker application results in larger cracks and a more tactile texture.
At least 3 layers should be applied to see results. The crackling should be visible immediately after application when the glaze is dry, otherwise several layers will need to be applied. After drying, the item should be handled with care, as the flakes may fall off. The glaze is almost run-free. This means that the first layer of glaze can be applied right down to the edge, but for subsequent layers, leave a border at the bottom of 0.5 cm and then 1 cm. (1200°C - 1280°C) 473 ml.
At temperatures higher than 1240°C, the appearance of the glaze changes.
Cone 6 oxidation (1230°C): White Mudcrack is a high-texture glaze that forms a raised, cracked surface. The thicker the application, the more textured the surface will be.
Cone 10 reduction (1280°C): Texture flattens, color remains white.
