Rusted Iron
Description
Mayco’s stoneware glazes are preferably applied with a soft fan brush onto the bisque-fired ware. Fire between cone 5 and cone 6 (1200°C - 1230°C). Many colors also perform very well at higher temperatures — see images; test before applying on production pieces. 473 ml. Ready to use.
Information
Cone 6 oxidation (1230°C): Rusted Iron is a semi-matte, opaque glaze that displays shades of metallic orange and brown. The variation of the glaze is dependent on application. Thicker application results in metallic matte characteristics. Thinner application results in a smoother surface and darker color.
Cone 10 reduction (1280°C): Increased orange/copper mottling. Increased movement.
TIP: This glaze WILL move. Take care when using on a vertical piece – reduce glaze thickness towards the bottom third to minimize run-off. Over application can cause pinholing or running.
